Montini Catholic's Lasallian Youth Club, under the leadership of Theology teacher, Mr. Denis Block, announced its group of leaders for the 2017-18 school year. The Lasallian leadership group consists of Officers and an Advisory Council.
"Our officers have the main say in club decisions, plan events, and run our meetings every Friday after school," informed Mr. Block. "Our Advisory Council is a group of students who will advise us on different ideas and perspectives."
Inspired by the life and works of St. John Baptist de LaSalle, Montini's Lasallian Youth Club participates in various service projects throughout the year and lends a helping hand to organizations including Feed My Starving Children, Ronald McDonald House, Easter Seals and PADS, to name a few. The group also looks forward to their annual summer trip where all of the LaSallian Schools in the Midwest gather.
"Our purpose as a club is to perform acts of service and to build up community," said Mr. Block, adding "One way to characterize the Lasallian charism is through the use of three core values: faith, service, and community."
Before coming to Montini, Mr. Block served as a Lasallian volunteer at La Salle Academy in Philadelphia, worked in campus ministry at St. Mary's College of California, Moraga, and worked on the retreat staff at La Salle Manor Retreat Center in Plano, Illinois. Upon becoming a member of the Montini family as a Theology teacher, Block had a clear vision of what he wanted his Lasallian Youth Club to be. "It will be through the students - their ideas and spirit, however, that these ideas will come into fruition. There are a lot of strong leaders in Lasallian Youth. They've got a lot of experience, and I want to make sure their voices are heard."
