The blustery fall weather didn't keep Montini Catholic's Bronco Baseball team and supporters away from the Lasallian college preparatory school's Infield Turf Project Groundbreaking Ceremony on the morning of Saturday, November 12th.
Next spring the Bronco Baseball team will enjoy their season on a newly turfed infield. "We started to investigate this project back in February," said President Jim Segredo. "In a short ten months, the generosity of many members of our school and baseball community - we were able to raise the money needed to make this project a reality!"
President Segredo singled out several of Montini's key partners and donors including Mark and Wally Weisenburger (from Montini Catholic's Classes of 1971 and 1975) for sponsoring "The Weisenburger Family Challenge" which he credits for providing the extra spark needed to raise the funds ($550,000) needed to move the much anticipated project forward.
Montini's construction partners, Briggs Paving (Downers Grove), have been working straight through the weather to keep on track with the school's aggressive project timeline with compacted soil/gravel base along with a proper drainage network set to be complete by Thanksgiving. (Turf to be installed when the ground is warmer in the spring.) Briggs Paving is also credited for the turf installation at Montini's John L. Duffy Memorial Stadium in 2012.
