Montini Catholic is proud to announce the addition of Shannon (Herold) Spanos to their award winning coaching staff. The 1999 graduate of Montini Catholic has been selected as the new Head Coach of the Lady Broncos Varsity Basketball Team.
"We set out to find a leader not only capable of continuing the winning tradition in the program, but someone who would lead with passion, energy, professionalism, and integrity," said Principal Kevin Beirne upon announcing Coach Spanos to the student body. "Our athletes deserve the very best, and we’re confident we’ve found a great fit!"
While a student athlete at Montini Catholic, Spanos earned twelve varsity letters participating in varsity basketball, softball, and volleyball. She was awarded All-Area and All-Conference honors in basketball and volleyball while scoring more than a 1,000 points in her four year varsity basketball career. Following a successful academic and athletic career at Montini, Spanos was recruited to Trinity College in Hartford, CT – a top-tier Liberal Arts University in the NESCAC Conference (New England Small College Athletic Conference) where she went on to a successful college playing career.
Having played and coached basketball for a combined thirty years, Coach Spanos has a great deal of knowledge, expertise, and basketball/life skills to share with Montini Catholic student athletes. She has excelled as a multi-sport athlete and, as a parent, fully understands and appreciates the demands facing today’s student athletes.
"When our Bronco athletes meet Coach Spanos, I’m confident they will be drawn to her love of basketball, passion for coaching, competitive nature, natural leadership style, and strong Catholic faith," added Principal Beirne. "We can't wait to see what this year's basketball season will bring!"
“I am so excited to officially be part of the Montini family again," says Shannon. "As a Montini Catholic alum the school holds a special place in my heart. I’m looking forward to building on the success of coach Jason Nichols and the entire girls basketball program. The girls and I are eager to get to work and keep the winning tradition alive!”
