Montini Catholic senior Anna D'Anca has been named Bronco Artist of the Month for January. Anna was nominated for the honor by Art Teacher, Ms. Stephanie Kuecker, for her exceptional work - painting and digital - as a student in Montini's Multi Level Art class! "Anna has done exceptional work and is continuing to create art in both Digital Design and Photography," says Kuecker. "She has shown great talent from the beginning of her art career at Montini and truly deserves this honor!"
Anna's initial inspiration for art was born from her grandfather's (Bill Dixon) artistic talents. "He sparked my initial interest and inspired me to pursue art!" She was very pleased and excited to hear the news of her recognition. "I love working with colored pencils and this year Mrs. K helped me develop my skills with painting. My favorite part about art is expression. A majority of my pieces are a reflection of what is going on in my head or my personal interpretations of my favorite music. Working with Mrs. K in the multi level art program allows me to broaden my horizons and work independently on projects. I am so thankful to have all of the creative liberties!"
"Anna has taken Art I and Art II," added Kuecker. "In those classes she began creating art based off of music and albums. Her focus has been in painting but she is very talented in drawing with many different types of media. Her latest paintings have really shown her detail and knowledge of color. She is great at blending tones for skin and for other items. I have really enjoyed having Anna in class."
Montini Catholic's Multi Level Art Program was created to inspire talented students who are particularly interested in art the opportunity to explore a variety of mediaand methods including figure-drawing, acrylic painting, and sculpture. Through this class, students discover their particular interests and can specialize in a particular direction. "Assignments for this class are more open-ended to allow for thedevelopment of personal creativity and style," informs Kuecker. "The goal is for students, such as Anna, tobecome independent artists with little to no drawing assistance from the teacher."
Anna has set her sights on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for college next fall and is looking forward to pursuing a career in Political Sciences or History. She is a member of Montini's National Honor Society and serves as Sergeant at Arms/Publicity Officer for Mu Alpha Theta and is a vital member of the Math Team. She is also a member of the Bronco Science, Yearbook, French and Book Clubs and serves as a member of Student Government. She is also a proud member of the Bronco Varsity Volleyball Team. "I plan to keep art in my life as a hobby and continue to express myself in the future!"
"There's no doubt that we will be hearing great things regarding Anna in the future," said President Jim Segredo. "I was very aware of her impressive academic career here at Montini and was delighted to see that her talents extend way beyond the academic realm! She is a very talented artist and deserves this recognition!"
