Montini Catholic congratulated senior Cillian O'Flaherty for receiving Downers Grove Rotary Club's 'Service Above Self' Scholarship. Cillian was presented with the award on May 13th by the Rotary Club's Vocational Chair, Barb Wysocki.
Cillian was recognized for his demonstration of leadership qualities and service activities. Finalists were invited for an interview with judges before the decisions were made. A portion of the scholarship award is in memory of Bruce M. Johnson, who spent his entire career as an educator at Downers Grove North and South High Schools.
Cillian has been an active Bronco since his freshman year at Montini Catholic. He is captain of the Bronco Varsity Volleyball team, and a member of the Soccer team. He is also a member of Chess and Investment Clubs and President of Montini's Future Medical Professionals Club. Cillian was proud to represent Montini at March for Life (in Washington D.C.) for three years as a member of Lasallian Youth Club. He also accompanied his classmates to Jamaica in 2019 with International Samaritan as a volunteer to help the poor during their Jamaica Service Immersion Trip.
"We are so proud of Cillian," said President Jim Segredo. "He is a bright and caring young man and well deserving of this award. We congratulate him and look forward to hearing about all the great things he will do at the University of Nebraska!"
