Students Honor 9/11 in a Show of Gratitude to First Responders

Members of Montini Catholic's Student Government, in commemoration of the 19th anniversary of 9/11, invited members of the Police Department to stop in and receive a small token of appreciation to the men and women who protect our community.  The invitation was arranged by Montini's Activities Director, Mr. Andrew Weisenburger.

Deputy Brewer and Deputy Mendez from the Lombard Police Department were delighted to hear from the students, and after talking with them briefly during their homeroom session, left with a plateful of cupcakes - 'reluctantly' promising to share with their fellow officers.

That same day, Montini students also brought treats to firefighters at the York Center Fire Protection District on 16th Street to thank them for their dedication to the community.  Throughout the year the students visit this location to bring food and snacks and just to say 'hello.'

"First responders are such a valuable part of our community and demonstrate that everyday," said Mr. Weisenburger.  "On September 11th, a day when we remember that many of them made the ultimate sacrifice for their community, it was important for our students to recognize those men and women who put the needs of others ahead of their own."
