Drawing held at O’Neill’s Pub, Lombard on Mondays at 7:30pm. First drawing on Monday, February 25th.
The Queen of Hearts is a progressive raffle.
54 playing cards, which include a full deck plus two jokers, are placed in a random order face down on a mounting board purchased through an official gaming vendor; the cards are numbered 1-54 and sealed.
Once a card is selected, it will be turned over with the card face up on the board. If the Queen of Hearts is not selected, the game will rollover to the next week. After the drawing, all the tickets from that week’s drawing will be destroyed.
If your ticket is selected and the revealed card is not the Queen of Hearts, an incentive prize will be given. Typically, the prize will be $25 for a ticket drawn and $50 if the revealed card is a picture card or a Joker. The amount of this incentive prize will be publicized on social media and at O’Neill’s the week prior to the drawing if it is different than above. The committee reserves the right to change this amount from week to week as needed.
The total prize pool will continue to accumulate weekly until the Queen of Hearts is drawn. The jackpot amount, based on ticket sales, will be updated and displayed at O’Neill’s. Updates will also be posted on the Facebook pages of Montini Catholic and St. Pius X Parish School. A projected amount will be posted on the “mock” board at O’Neill’s. This amount will be updated weekly.
The official board will be transported to O’Neill’s for the drawing but will be in a secure location off-site until the drawing. A mock board will be displayed at O’Neill’s Pub.
The first drawing will be on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. at O’Neill’s. One ticket will be drawn each week. The winner need not be present. Thereafter, the drawing will take place each Monday at 7:30 p.m. When the drawing falls on a holiday, the drawing will be “frozen” for that week and will be drawn the following Monday. Ticket sales for St. Patrick’s Day weekend will have limited hours.
Tickets are six for $5 and there is no limit to how many you can purchase. No single tickets. Cash only.
Tickets can be purchased immediately following the drawing up to 15 minutes before the next drawing. There can only be one name per ticket. Write your name, telephone number and the number of the card that you believe contains the Queen of Hearts based on the mock board. If your ticket is illegible, it may be discarded, when the name and phone number are not identifiable. A new ticket will then be drawn from the drum.
This raffle has a maximum prize amount of $500,000 to a winner. This prize amount is based on the current limit set by the Village of Lombard and has the potential to change to a larger amount in the event the Village rules change.
The current length of the raffle is 365 days, per the Village of Lombard. This length of time has the possibility of being extended to a longer time frame in the event the Village rules change.
If a ticket is pulled and the number is already taken, the committee will open the next available number on the board. This will also be the process for a draw down, when the raffle has reached the maximum jackpot or time length.
The ticket holder who selects the Queen of Hearts is the Grand Prize Winner and will be paid half the pot, or a maximum of $500,000.
If a prize of greater than $5,000 is awarded, the winner will need to confirm their identity and social security number by completing and signing an IRS Form W-2G. In addition, the IRS requires a withholding of 28% of the winnings, less the amount of the wager. Winnings will not be distributed until the W-2G has been completed and signed. If a player is unwilling or unable to provide any of the listed items, the prize money will revert to Montini Catholic and St. Pius X Parish School. This may take up to two weeks.
A winner cannot donate the prize without first taking ownership of the prize, which means the appropriate W-2G must be issued and the appropriate withholding taken. If a winner wants to then donate the prize, they may do so.
Tickets will be available for purchase at O’Neill’s everyday beginning at 12 noon ending one half hour before the close of business. Tickets may be available at select school and parish functions. Ticket sales will END 15 minutes prior to the drawing.
If you do not agree with the rules of the game at this venue, there is no obligation to play.
The day of the drawing (currently Monday), is subject to change. The Queen of Hearts Committee reserves the right to change the day of the drawing.
