Posted 12/20/2018 02:48PM
Montini Catholic recently congratulated senior, (WR/DB/K) Scott West, for his commitment to join Drake University's football program in the fall of 2019. He is looking very forward to his future as a Bulldog! Scott formally committed on National Football Early Signing Day, Wednesday, December 19th.

"I've been playing football since third grade. I would watch my brother (Mitch West '17 - currently playing his second year of football at the Naval Academy) play when I was really young and just fell in love with the sport and everything about it," said Scott when asked about his passion and drive for the sport.

This fall, All State and All Conference standout, West, played a leading role in taking his Broncos to the 2nd Place title in the 5A State Championship! In addition to being captain of the Broncos Football Team, Scott is also a member of Montini's Varsity Basketball and Track teams, an Academic All Conference student and represents Montini Catholic to prospective students and athletes as a Student Ambassador. "Of all activities at Montini, I would have to say that football is my favorite," he says. "The feeling you get on Friday nights is something I will never forget! I played with a great group of guys and an awesome coaching staff and made memories I will never forget and friendships that will last the rest of my life. I have truly loved everything about Montini football these past 4 years."

Although he considered Butler University and North Dakota State, in the end, Scott felt that Drake presented the best opportunity. "The coaches at Drake started recruiting me after my sophomore season and always believed in me," he said. "I went up to their camp every summer and I instantly built a relationship with the coaching staff and some of the players. I just felt as if the school aspect and location would be perfect for me."

Scott hopes to major in either Journalism or Sports Management.

Parents, Bennett and Christina West are very excited about Scott's decision to become a Bulldog. "They love my decision and know it is the perfect place for me to pursue my football and academic dreams," said West, adding, " I feel great about this decision too and very relieved - because I know I found the right school for me and can't wait to get started. I've had amazing support from my friends and family and they have helped me know this is the right place for me."

"Congratulations to Scott West as he will continue his education and football career at Drake University," said Coach Mike Bukovsky. "The Montini Football Program is extremely thankful for all of the leadership, and competitive spirit Scott has shown while wearing a Bronco uniform, he will be missed! I have no doubt Scott will be very successful as he takes the next step in his life journey as a Drake Bulldog!"

"Montini is very preparing for college and definitely prepared me for my next four years in college," said Scott. "Teachers care about the students' desires to succeed and will help you get to your highest potential. I cherish what Montini has brought to my life and happy I made the decision to come here! I also want to thank my teachers and coaches for always believing in me and helping me get to where I am today."

Scott West is from Naperville and attended Kennedy Junior High and is a member of The Grace United Methodist Church.
