Students Celebrate National Pro-Life Cupcake Day

Students in Montini Catholic's Pro-Life Club were busy "baking for a cause" the week of October 2nd. The young activists took part in Cupcakes for Life/National Pro-Life Cupcake Day.
The Cupcakes for Life advocacy was formed upon the realization that tragically, because of abortion, not every child has the opportunity to enjoy a birthday. The organization picked October 9th as a national day to recognize the unborn children of the world and raise awareness about the issue of abortion and its impact on society. "By using cupcakes we are able to reach out to the general public in a warm, non-confrontational way and use it as a segue to raise awareness, start conversation, and potentially educate individuals about issues that would ordinarily be suppressed to silence," says the organization through their website (www.cupcakesforlife.com).
In addition to baking and distributing cupcakes, Montini students, under the guidance of Pro-Life Club advisor, Ms. Katie Wall, wanted to do something more. The group set up shop and sold the cupcakes during lunch on Friday, October 6th (since school was not in session on October 9th - Columbus Day). With pink and blue iced cupcakes selling like . . . well, cupcakes - the group will be donating all money earned to the Waterleaf Women's Center in Aurora. Ms. Wall currently volunteers at the pro-life women's center, which offers an array of medical and professional services (at no charge) to young women seeking an alternative to abortion. Ms. Wall and club members wanted to take the Pro-Life Cupcake Day "one step further" and do something more to drive home their pro-life values.
