Senior Peyton Schaefer of Lombard was the proud recipient of the 2018 Lombard Rotary Club Scholarship. The award was presented by Rotary Club member, Mr. Dennis McNicholas at the Lasallian high school's 21st Annual Academic Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 3rd at Bobak's Signature Events in Woodridge. (Mr. McNicholas is an alumni parent of Montini as well as a current member of the school's Board of Directors.)

Every year, high school seniors in the Lombard community have the opportunity to apply for several scholarships offered through the Lombard Rotary Club. One requirement is to submit a letter indicating how the student exemplifies the qualities of character, civic involvement,
volunteerism, displaying a positive attitude and striving to do his/her best at all times. This year, it was Miss Schaefer's letter and accomplishments that impressed the judges.

In addition to being the Vice President of the school's National Honor Society (NHS), Peyton is also a NHS Peer Tutor, an Illinois State Scholar, an Academic All Conference recipient in soccer as well as an IHSA Scholastic Recognition Award recipient. She also represents Montini as a Student Ambassador and Student Government executive board member and lends her time to the Spanish, English and Broadcasters Clubs. She was also a leader this year at Montini's Kairos retreat for seniors. One of her duties as Vice President of Montini's NHS is to serve as a leader and organizer of the numerous activities and fundraisers the group hosts each year. "As Vice President, I am most excited to help conduct positive change inside, and outside, the hallways of Montini Catholic High School," said Peyton, at the beginning of her term.

The Lombard Rotary Club was founded in November of 1963, and is comprised of men and women who are business, governmental and community leaders in the Lombard area. The group strives to follow the mission of Rotary International, which is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. Members volunteer to work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto "Service Above Self".

Peyton has plans to major in Public Health/Health Sciences at Tulane University next fall.
