Montini Catholic proudly awarded senior Brianna Clifton with their annual Kathleen Filipiak Female Scholar/Athlete Award. The softball standout accepted the award during the Lasallian high school's annual Founders Day ceremonies in May.
Just recently, Brianna and her Broncos celebrated their 2nd State Softball Championship (both during her time as a Bronco). A win Brianna was instrumental in helping her team achieve. She was selected for GCAC's 1st Team All Conference this year, and Illinois Coaches Association's Softball All State Recognition.
Excelling academically as well, Brianna was honored as an Academic All Star at Montini's annual Academic Awards (held May 3, 2018). She has also achieved Illinois State Scholar and Advanced Placement Scholar accolades. During her time as a Bronco, she has received Academic All Conference status in two sports - Softball: (all four years); and Tennis: (11th and 12th grades). In addition, she received the IHSA Scholastic Recognition Award (for both 5th and 7th semester) for students who excelled in the classroom while participating in IHSA sponsored sports or activities. Brianna was also a member of Montini's National Honor Society as well as their Spanish Honor Society.
Early in her senior year (on National Sports Signing Day - November 8, 2017), Brianna committed to playing softball at the collegiate level at Nicholls State University where she is planning on majoring in Marine Biology.
The Kathleen Filipiak Scholar/Athlete Award is named after Montini's recently retired Assistant Principal for Student Services. Ms. Filipiak began her career at Montini in 1975 and retired in 2015 after 40 years of service. In addition to teaching PE and Science at Montini, Ms. Filipiak spearheaded an extensive girls' athletic program, beginning with volleyball.
