Montini Catholic Principal, Kevin Beirne, recently announced that senior, Andrew Ernat has been named a Commended Scholar in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Of the 1.6 million entrants, some 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT® Selection Index scores (calculated by doubling the sum of the Reading, Writing and Language, and Math Test scores) qualify for recognition in the National Merit® Scholarship Program. In September, these high scorers are notified through their schools that they have qualified as either a Commended Student or Semifinalist.
Mr. Ernat is among more than two-thirds (about 34,000) of the approximately 50,000 high scorers who received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
The mission of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is to recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States. NMSC accomplishes its mission by conducting nationwide academic scholarship programs. An enduring goal of NMSC's scholarship programs is to shine a spotlight on brilliant students and encourage the pursuit of academic excellence at all levels of education.
Andrew is a very active student at Montini Catholic. He is a member of the French Club, Drama Club, Computer Club, Math Team, Acafellas, and the Tennis Team. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Tri-M Music Honor Society, French Honor Society, and International Thespian Society. He was most recently recognized at Montini Catholic for his perfect ACT score of 36 and for being named an AP Scholar with Distinction. Although Andrew has not yet decided on his college, his top three choices are the University of Illinois, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Purdue University where he plans on majoring in Nuclear Engineering.
"This recognition will broaden Andrew's educational opportunities," said Montini Catholic Principal Kevin Beirne. "I am positive that we will celebrate even more of his academic accomplishments throughout his senior year here at Montini."
Andrew Ernat is the son of Donald and Christine Ernat from Lombard and attended Sacred Heart School.
