Math Team Celebrates Success During Competition Season
Mathletes looking forward to State Competition!
Montini Catholic's Math Team members are enjoying their competition season - all leading up to the ICTM State Competition in April! The team recently competed in the Lemont Invitational (January 28, 2026) and the MTA Invitational (Math Teachers Association) at Loyola's Lakeshore Campus (January 31, 2026).
Celebrating Perfect Individual Papers, obtaining maximum possible scores, at the Lemont Invitational were Naomi Tang '27 (Algebra 2) and Zion Yang '26 (Precalculus). The Bronco Math Team also secured a First Place finish with their Junior-Senior Two-Person Team of Gavin Conway '27 and Naomi Tang '27 and with their PreCalc Team, team members: Michael Pivoney '27, Chailyn Lyu '26, Zion Yang '26, Gavin Conway '27, Andrew Sparke '26 and Charlie Paciga '26. In addition to their blue ribbon finishes, the Broncos congratulated their Frosh-Soph 8 Person Team for their 2nd Place Finish and their Geometry and Calculator Teams on their 3rd Place achievements. Overall, the mathletes took 3rd Place (just shy of one point for the 2nd place ranking) in the Lemont Invitational (out of 20 teams).

During the MTA Invitational, the Broncos enjoyed an overall 3rd Place ranking with individual placement finishes by Gavin Conway '27 (5th), Zion Yang '26 (6th) and Naomi Tang '27 (8th).
The 2026 Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) State Math Finals for high school students are scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Illinois State University. The regional contests leading up to this event will take place on February 28, 2026. Montini's Team celebrated a 6th Place finish last spring. "Montini is one of only two teams, and the only Catholic team in Division 2A to qualify for the State Meet for the past 24 consecutive years," said Math Team Moderator and Math Department Chair, Chrissy McManus. "Additionally, they finished in the Top 10 for 23 of those years (and was #11 once)."
