Jonny, a graduate from St. Scholastica School, enjoyed academic success during his time at Montini. He earned the President's Gold Award for Academic Excellence and is an Illinois State Scholars as well as an AP Scholar with Honor. He was also a member of the Tri-M (Music) Honor Society, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and the International Thespian Society.
Jonny also served his Bronco peers as Vice President of Student Government during his senior year (and Treasurer during his junior year). He was a member of the History Club, Future Medical Scholars Association, Bible Club and the A Cafellas singing group. He also dazzled audiences performing in several Montini plays and musicals during his high school career. Athletically, he was a four year member of the Soccer team.
More importantly, Jonny inspired many as a member of Peer Ministry during his junior and senior years and was among only fourteen seniors earning Montini's prestigious St. John Baptist De La Salle Award recognizing seniors who have most fully embraced the Lasallian values at the heart of Montini's mission - exceptional service, steadfast dedication and a genuine commitment to the well-being of others.
"Father John Guiney honors a student whose actions demonstrate that leadership is best expressed through service," said President Kevin Beirne. "Jonny truly deserves this honor. He leads not by seeking recognition, but by generously sharing his time, talents and heart with everyone around him. He has truly made his mark on Montini and we know his story of leadership and service is just beginning."
Jonny will attend Seton Hall University this fall, where he will pursue a degree in biochemistry through the university's Joint Bachelor's/M.D. Program on the Pre-Med Track.
Reverend John J. Guiney (1932-2014), ordained in 1961, served the Joliet Diocese where his assignments included being the associate pastor at St. Matthew in Glendale Heights, Sacred Heart in Lombard, St. Isidore in Bloomingdale and St. Walter in Roselle. Prior to serving the Diocese of Joliet, Fr. Guiney served as a missionary at the Boniki Leper Colony in Africa from (1961-1982). At Montini, his legacy is honored as a reminder to their Lasallian students of the school's tradition of recognizing the sacredness of all people through service and respect.
