Montini Catholic Art Teacher, Christi Blatchley was proud to recognize the three top students who entered the Photography Contest sponsored by the Artists Collective (club). The theme was “Capture What Being Back to School Looks Like for You.”   Students were invited to participate and challenged with capturing their best interpretation. 

First Place: Junior Kayli Gergen  
Second Place: Senior Olivia Naso  
Third Place: Junior Maria Powers 

 

Kayli's caption, “Looking Back, Moving Forward,” was the top winner.  Her photo featured a yearbook from the previous year alongside a notepad of her goals for the new year.  "Starting a new school year makes me think fondly of past memories while anticipating a new year of friendship, challenges, and growth," she explained.  "It's a reminder to appreciate how far I've come and to keep looking for new opportunities."

 

Olivia's unique image featured the morning sunrise as seen through the mirror of a car as it sets on it's path to school every morning.

 

"The title of my photo is glory to the game​," said Maria.  "​My inspiration for this photo was thinking about something that brings us  people together not just the students and also has a big meaning to our school, students, staff, and community around us. When I was thinking about what to take a picture of I thought of the Montini football games I believe that the football games at Montini Catholic represent the theme of back to school because they show pride, love for the school and community, belongingness, and inclusion so taking a picture at the neon game back in September with the student section all together felt just right as it embodies what it’s like being back to school.​"

 

The photo/art contests give students a creative outlet to express themselves and showcase their unique talents. The contests celebrate imagination, individuality, and perspective and help build confidence as students see their work recognized and appreciated by others.
