Brendan, a graduate of Sacred Heart School, is a member of Troop 202 in Lombard. His journey in scouting began as a fifth grader after bridging in 2019 from Cub Scouts. Over the years, he has steadily advanced through the ranks, culminating in the opportunity to pursue Scouting’s highest honor. To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a scout must plan, organize and lead a significant community service project that benefits others and demonstrates leadership. Brendan chose a project close to home. "The purpose of my Eagle Scout project was to improve relations with the neighbors of Montini, conserving the environment and limiting further littering in the area," said Brendan, who met with Montini President Kevin Beirne while exploring meaningful ways to serve his school community. "Mr. Beirne told me that the easement between the school and the neighbors had become littered and was in need of trash cans. Recognizing the importance of being good neighbors, Mr. Beirne shared his hope of strengthening relationships with nearby residents who graciously accommodate the added activity and noise that come with high school games and events.
He completed his Eagle Scout project in January of this year (2026). "First we cleaned up the easement in between the Montini property and the neighbors," explained Brendan. "And, with the help of many others, I created engraved signs to hang on the fence line. We engraved the signs, painted the lettering, and coated them in polyurethane to make sure the signs are durable and will last as long as possible. Finally, with the help of many generous donors I bought trash receptacles for the school to place in this area." He was also very grateful for the help and inspiration from his parents. "My parents always supported me. Through being with me during each of my work days, giving me helpful advice and pushing me to finish my project, they were integral to the completion of this project."
His parents, Rick and Julie Pully, share immense pride in Brendan and all he has accomplished. "We have always supported his scouting journey. We couldn't be more proud," says Julia. "For Brendan, it is a meaningful, long-term commitment to service and leadership culminating with a major community service project benefiting Montini and the school’s neighbors for many years to come. We are so grateful for the support of the Montini community and especially Mr. Beirne, of the neighborhood families, and of the many friends and family who supported Brendan with their time, talent and treasures. It was an amazing journey and major life success!"
Brendan’s commitment to involvement reaches far beyond Scouting and is evident throughout his time at Montini Catholic. He has celebrated two championship seasons as a member of the Bronco Football Team and also competes on the Lacrosse Team, which is his favorite extracurricular activity, where he feels he has grown tremendously as a player. He also finds his role as a Peer Minister especially meaningful and rewarding. Academically, he has earned honor status in both Mu Alpha Theta and the National Honor Society, and he proudly represents Montini as a member of the Math Team.
"I was certainly inspired by both teachers and administration to complete this project," adds Brendan. "With the positive encouragement that I had received from some of my teachers such as Mrs. McManus or Mrs. Miller, I knew that I wanted to give back to the school. After getting in contact with Mr. Beirne, he guided me to find my project for the school. Without these teachers or Mr. Beirne, I do not think that I would have done the project for the school."
"Brendan’s project is a wonderful example of leadership in action," said President Beirne. "We are grateful for his initiative and dedication and we hope this improvement will positively impact our community for years to come."
Brendan's future includes his plan to major in Aerospace Engineering in college. "The journey toward becoming an Eagle Scout has shown me what continuous perseverance and hard work can achieve. Being an Eagle Scout shows what can be achieved if you stick with your passions."
