Bronco Football Hosts Coat Drive to Benefit Stroger Hospital Patients
All Donations Were Delivered to Patients at Stroger Hospital in Chicago.
Montini Catholic’s Bronco Football Program, under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Bukovsky ’83, is proud to continue the Lasallian college preparatory high school's longstanding partnership with Dr. Michael Alebich ’03 and H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County through its annual Coat Drive. This ongoing collaboration, now in its 6th year, reflects the shared commitment to serving others, with donated coats providing warmth and comfort to patients in need.
In 2021, Dr. Alebich, who was a member of the Bronco football team during his time at Montini, reached out to Coach Bukovsky in the hopes that the Montini community would provide assistance in obtaining new and gently used coats for the hospital's many underinsured patients - many of whom are without basics. “I remember one day a patient was ready for discharge. It was maybe 15 degrees outside and he was undomiciled,” said Dr. Alebich. “To make matters worse, his clothes were discarded in the emergency department. We had to buy him clothes as we had limited supplies in our social work office for a man of his size. I felt this was an easy fix. I thought to myself, ‘I'll ask the Montini community, they will donate and this situation won't happen again.’ I wasn't disappointed.”
Coach Bukovsky is very happy to promote the drive each year to Montini students and their families - asking all to donate. “We are grateful to Dr. Alebich for once again partnering with us on our annual Coat Drive,” said Coach Bukovsky. “Opportunities like this remind our students of the importance of giving back and recognizing their responsibility to support those in need. Seeing firsthand how their efforts make a difference helps them better appreciate the many blessings within our Montini community. We are especially grateful to our Montini Catholic community for generously donating."
