Students partner with Ronald McDonald House in Winfield to help families in their time of need.
Montini Catholic students are honored to have an opportunity to prepare a home-cooked meal for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House near Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage House (CDH) in Winfield. Since 1977, Ronald McDonald Charities have kept families together with their hospitalized children through their Ronald McDonald House® and Ronald McDonald Family Room® programs, enabling them to "get better together." All year long, the charity invites families, friends and groups to "get creative in the kitchen" to feed families of hospitalized children through their program called Meals from the Heart. Since families staying at a Ronald McDonald House are often far from the comforts of home, Bronco volunteers, under the guidance of Theology teacher and Service Learning Coordinator, Mr. Chris Lackey, have been happy to provide meals for them, allowing families to eat together without the stress of cooking or the expense of dining out. Montini 'cooking crews' are scheduled to travel to Winfield one evening every month during the school year.
Tuesday, September 22bd marked the first trip for Montini volunteers this school year. Music Director, Donnie Glowinski accompanied eight students to Winfield and prepared a delicious meal of chicken, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, fruit and dessert. Each month, Montini's team is responsible for planning the menu, organizing the game plan, and making sure every student has a role in preparing and serving the meal. Students and staff leaders provide the ingredients and cook everything on-site in the Ronald McDonald House kitchen. “Each month, our students show up ready to serve, give their time and make a difference,” said Principal Chris Tiritilli. “Their willingness to help others is a wonderful reflection of the heart of our Bronco community.”
Principal Tiritilli is extremely proud of the Bronco students who commit their time and efforts to provide for others. “Our students do an incredible job preparing meals, but the experience is about so much more than the meals themselves. Along the way, they develop leadership skills, build stronger connections with one another and see firsthand the meaningful difference their service can make in the lives of others. That's what being a Lasallian at Montini Catholic is all about!”
