Students celebrate the Mass of the Assumption during their first week of school on Friday, August 15th.
Students and staff at Montini Catholic High School gathered for the Lasallian college preparatory high school's first Mass of the 25-26 school year, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, on Friday, August 15th. Father John Eustice from St. Viator celebrated Mass with the Montini community.
The Mass also presented an opportunity to introduce and bless the school's newest Peer Ministry Team. (Montini's faith-based ministry team began in 2018 with a mission to inspire and motivate by example and to encourage students to engage in faith-based activities at school and in their communities.) All students comprising this spiritual team were asked to stand and pledge their commitment to their unique purpose as student leaders.
Faculty and staff members also renewed their own commitments to the students as well. As Lasallian teachers their role is to fulfill the mission set forth by the founder of Lasallian education, St. John Baptist de LaSalle, the Patron Saint of Teachers - to 'touch the hearts of students.' Lasallian schools are characterized by a 300-plus year tradition of relationship-centered education, special attention to the poor and marginalized, and devotion to the salvation of each student.
"It is awesome to see you all again, back in the building and together as one Montini community celebrating Mass together," said Principal Tiritilli during his traditional address to students after Mass. "This first Mass is more than a tradition; it is a reminder that everything we do here at Montini begins and ends with our faith. I am filled with excitement and hope as we step into a new year, full of opportunities to grow academically, spiritually, and personally. Whether you're a freshman just beginning your journey or a senior preparing to leave your mark, this year holds countless possibilities for you to learn, lead, and serve."
"As a Lasallian school, we are part of a rich tradition inspired by Saint John Baptist de La Salle—a tradition rooted in faith, service, and community. These aren't just ideals we talk about; they are values we live each day. This year, I challenge each of you to reflect on what it means to live Lasallian. How will you build community in your classroom and on your teams? How will you show concern for the poor and the marginalized? How will you grow in your faith and respond to God’s call in your life? Let’s make this a year where we truly embody our Lasallian virtues—especially faith in the presence of God, respect for all persons, and zeal for service and excellence. These virtues are not reserved for the extraordinary; they’re lived out in our everyday actions: in the way we treat one another, in the effort we give to our studies, and in the courage we show to do what is right, even when it’s difficult."
Mr. Tiritilli concluded, "I look forward to a wonderful school year with each one of you, filled with academic success, and spiritual growth and formation, fun, and many athletic and academic competition victories, outstanding performances in music and the arts, and Montini Catholic High School becoming your home each day, where you feel welcome, known, recognized and loved by all."
