Carla Osorio Palomino Named Bronco Artist of the Month for December
December 20, 2022

Montini Catholic senior Carla Osorio Palomino has been named Bronco Artist of the Month for December. Carla was nominated for the honor by Art Teacher, Ms. Stephanie Kuecker, for her amazing talent - in particular in the digital art field. (Digital art can be computer generated, scanned or drawn using a tablet and a mouse.)

"I have had the pleasure of teaching Carla since her junior year. She has taken Multi Level Art in her junior and senior years," said Ms. Kuecker.  "This course is considered to be a more advanced art class. Her work is so advanced that she works individually on projects to develop detailed images of portraits." Carla was so happy to hear the news of this honor, one of which only a few students are selected each year.  Her enthusiasm for digital art truly sparked when she was in middle school (at St. Pius X Parish School in Lombard).

"I saw two videos on YouTube. One was a speedraw and it felt mesmerizing to watch as I saw the artist use tools I’ve never seen before to create such an interesting piece. The other video was a video promoting a video game character called Jinx from the game League of Legends. I’m not sure how I came across that video, and I didn’t even know what League of Legends was, but I loved the art style and composition choices all throughout the video. As of today I still obsess over that art style, you can say that art style is like one of my idols!"

Carla Osorio Palomino has been named Bronco Artist of the Month for December.

Carla's artistic interests also go beyond the digital realm.  She enjoys sketching and sculpting. "(Sketching) doesn’t matter what pencil I use or what sort of paper I use. I like the feeling of changing the pressure of the pencil against the paper, so the process is very intriguing and satisfying to me. I haven’t sculpted a lot but I like doing it because it lets me see things in 3D, which helps me understand different shapes better. It’s a good tool to use if you want to draw things that look more realistic. The material is also squishy!"

Montini's Multi-Level Art offering has enhanced Carla's art, allowing her the freedom to explore different mediums and expand on her particular interests.  "Working with Ms. Kuecker has been great. I love the way she organizes her class, it’s the art class of my dreams! She is always there to help me when I need it and I like having the artistic freedom to do whatever I want with my art instead of simply making something a teacher wants me to do - not that I don’t enjoy that, I love everything art related!"

Carla is a member of Montini Catholic's Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and lends her artistic talents to help create the Bronco Yearbook.  She was most recently named an AP Scholar with Distinction, and has earned additional academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. "She works very hard and has scored three or higher on five AP Exams," said Ms. Kuecker.  "I truly admire her perseverance and resilience!"

Carla is always looking ahead with plans to become a Clinical Psychologist.  Her dream is to attend New York University (NYU).  Her plans also include continuing to pursue her digital art passions.  "I plan to continue making art. My goal is to improve and have it as a side job. As for college, I plan to join an art club, it doesn’t matter what type of art, if it’s art then I’ll enjoy it."

Carla graduated from St. Pius X Parish School and is a parishioner at St. Pius X Parish in Lombard.
