Award Presented to Juniors Pursuing a Degree in Education

Congratulations to Montini Catholic junior Colleen Considine of Naperville for earning the Weisenburger Family Scholarship for 2023. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student at Montini Catholic High School who has expressed an interest in pursuing a degree in education. The award was presented by Montini graduate and faculty member, Andrew Weisenburger '05, during Montini Catholic's annual Founder's Day Celebration on Friday, May 19th.  Colleen was selected for her demonstration of outstanding leadership in the classroom as well as in extracurricular activities throughout her high school career as a Montini Bronco.

Colleen, a member of Montini Catholic's National Honor Society (inducted during her junior year), earned GCAC Academic All Conference (Golf) honors this past year for earning a 3.0+ GPA for a complete academic quarter during the 2022 fall sports season. She is also a 5th Semester recipient of the IHSA Scholastic Recognition Award, also in Golf.

She also received, this spring, the 2023 John L. Duffy Memorial Scholarship Award for her role as team manager of the Varsity Girls Basketball Team.

The Weisenburger Family Scholarship is in gratitude for the transformative Lasallian education that was received by Cathy '70, Marc '71, Carolyn (Drengler) '72, Wally '75, Joe '78, Andrew '05 and Kimmy '07 Weisenburger. It was created to honor and remember Walter and Catherine Weisenburger who, as patriarchs of the family, recognized and valued Catholic education. "It is a special thank you for all they sacrificed to send all four of their children to Catholic schools," said Wally, who was formerly the Chairman of Montini's Board of Directors.

Colleen received a $1,500 credit applied to her 2024-25 MCHS tuition.

This month, Montini Catholic's Band is celebrating a National Champion (Class A) title in the National Catholic Band Association's national band competition. "We are incredibly proud," said the Lasallian college preparatory high school's Music Director Donnie Glowinski. "This is the first time in school history that Montini Catholic has earned this title." Each year, Catholic high schools from across the country are invited to submit performance recordings to be adjudicated by a panel of expert judges. "This prestigious honor is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of our student musicians. Their commitment to excellence has brought great pride to our school community," added Glowinski. "Every year, we work on becoming better musicians, and every year, the band rises to the challenge. I am so unbelievably proud of the work this group has done this year and everything they have accomplished. I am really looking forward to the future to see what these students will be able to do!" In the summer of 1953 a small group of concerned band directors, led by Director of Bands Robert F. O’Brien, met on the campus of the University of Notre Dame to discuss the Catholic School Band, its particular problems, and what might be done to further its development. Fr. Theodore Hesburgh Notre Dame President, gave the welcome speech. Mr. O’Brien then proposed goals for the organization and the NCBA was born. Today, NCBA's office is located at Villanova University Office of Music Activities. The NCBA recognizes the value of music within the Catholic school community. Their mission is to establish high musical, educational and ethical standards in Catholic schools' band programs.
