Congratulations to Dominic Catalano

We are proud to announce Dominic Catalano '24 as our January Student of the Month. Dominic was nominated by teacher and Student Activities Director, Eric Brechtel (with Dominic above), for being a "shining example of the type of well-rounded student who makes Montini Catholic the outstanding Lasallian high school that it is!"

"This year Dom has really been an integral member of Montini's Peer Ministry team," added Mr. Brechtel. "He enthusiastically leads retreats, food/clothing drives and meetings!   He is also able to maintain his work ethic in the classroom and is an outstanding student. I have been extremely impressed by Dom's ability to balance academics, Peer Ministry, and still be an elite baseball player on our varsity team."

"I am super appreciative to be recognized and nominated for Student of the Month," said Dominic, who has clearly proven to be a student with a desire to contribute to the success of Montini.  He is a member of Montini's National Honor Society as well as a member of the Executive Board of Student Government .  He greatly values the fact that he is a Core Team Member of the Peer Ministry team. "Being a part of the core team is very important to me. It gives me more of a leadership role and allows me to help out more throughout the school."

"Dom has been an excellent Peer Minister this year," says the team's moderator and Assistant Campus Minister, Katie Miller. "He goes above and beyond in his service to the team and our school community. He's a great leader!  He works hard to implement and facilitate our programs with a positive attitude and he is an excellent example for his peers."

Dominic relishes the many leadership responsibilities he has been asked to take on.  Helping to run school retreats, organize and support student-led food/clothing drives and other fundraising ventures. He takes these responsibilities seriously and is seen by school administration as someone they can turn for support. "To me, being able to do these things is very rewarding," says Dominic. "I feel being involved is great as it always keeps me on my toes. There is rarely a day where I don’t have an extracurricular meeting or event, but it’s never challenging, rather it’s something I look forward to. Being a part of these groups has been able to enhance my Montini experience in a great way."

Engagement in high school requires extreme commitment and persistence. Dominic makes it look easy, however! In addition to his success academically and extracurricularly, the all conference athlete has been committed for some time now to play Division 1 Baseball at the University of Illinois-Chicago next fall - and, although undecided, is currently considering a Business major.

"My best advice to future freshmen would be to get involved in high school and don’t be nervous. I came to Montini with hardly anyone from my middle school and created friendships that will last a lifetime through sports, extracurricular activities and clubs."

Dominic graduated from Glenn Westlake Middle School in Lombard. He and his parents, Anthony and Tammy Catalano, are parishioners at Sacred Heart Parish in Lombard.

Under the direction of Alumni Relations Officer, Mary Albert, Montini Catholic High School was proud to wrap up their fourth year of hosting their popular career focused Lunch & Learn series. The alumni led sessions provided an opportunity for Bronco juniors and seniors to learn more about potential careers. Through Montini's Lunch & Learn, Bronco alumni serve as mentors, offering guidance and support to students as they navigate their academic and professional journeys. These alumni connections can also provide an outlet for Montini students to build relationships for potential future internships and job opportunities. The last two Lunch & Learn sessions of the 2024-25 school year were held on Monday, April 28th and Wednesday, April 20th. Monday's session featured Former Secret Service Agent, Richard (RG) Starmann '89, whose remarkable career with the Secret Service began in 1997 and continued for 25 years as he served during the Clinton, Bush and Obama presidencies. Wednesday's sessions included Guy Papa J.D., M.A., B.A., ‘94 (Law Enforcement Bureau Chief, DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and former Deputy Chief of the Berwyn Police Department for over 21 years), 2019 graduate, Mariella Maduzia RN, (Registered Nurse, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Level IV NICU) and Dan Lowery, PE, '08 who is Assistant Vice President & Construction Services Team Leader at Gannett Fleming TranSystems (speaking on Civil Engineering). "We are so happy to conclude our Lunch and Learns this year knowing that our students walked away with valuable career advice and help with exploring their options and making more informed decisions," said Miss Albert. "And we are so thankful to our alumni for taking the time to visit with and share their knowledge and experience with our students."
